December Feature Film

Join the Hooksett Library for it's December Feature Film on Tuesday, Dec. 5th at 6:30pm in the Hebert Media Room downstairs. This month's movie will be Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. November Feature Film

Veteran's Day

The Hooksett Public Library will be closed on Sat., Nov. 11th in observance of Veteran's Day. We will be open our regular hours on Friday the 10th, although other town offices will be closed that day.

Library Elf

The Hooksett Library has partnered with a new service, Library Elf, to help patrons manage their library accounts. Library Elf is an Internet-based tool for keeping track of what's due, overdue and ready for pickup. Patrons can keep track of one or more library accounts in one place and receive reminders before books or videos are due. Reminders are sent when the user wants them -- up to seven days advance notice, weekly notice or everyday reminders. Elf is ideal for families with multiple cards or anyone who'd like reminders before an item is due. Elf can also send reminders via RSS feeds, and can send hold notice alerts to your cell phone.

Fred the Bear enjoys leafing through a Booklist magazine in the Hooksett Public Library's new comfortable reading area. When life's hectic pace becomes un"bear"able, try out the new rocking chairs, prop your feet up on a comfy ottoman, and enjoy a hot beverage from the coffee and tea bar. Also on display in this area, you can celebrate Banned Books Week (9/23 - 9/30) by checking out the selection of books that have been challenged in the past for a variety of reasons. In honor of the 25th anniversary of Banned Books Week, the ALA says, "Read Banned Books - They're Your Ticket to Freedom!"

With over 850 popular and award winning titles to select from, our online collection is guaranteed to have something for you! You can download bestselling fiction novels, popular biographies, self-improvement guides, and more! Install the free media software, browse the collection, and select titles to add to your Cart. Check out is simple. Just enter your valid library card number and download the digital media to your personal computer. When the download process is complete, you can enjoy titles on your PC or transfer to any compatible WMA/MP3 or WMV player and even burn some titles to CD to listen in the car or on any standard CD player.

So what’s the catch? There is none. Digital downloads are easy to check out and download, and the best part is - there are never any late fees because your titles are automatically returned at the end of the lending period!

Have you ever wondered what Newly Acquired means in our online catalog? It means that we have received the book and it is in processing.

If you would like a title that is listed as newly acquired, place a request on the item or ask at our circulation desk. We will quickly process the item and have it ready for you within a matter of a day or two.

Please note, the exception to this will be if there is a publisher's release date that we are unable to release the item before or if other patrons have placed their name on hold for the title before you.

Library Catalog update

If you haven't been to the library recently, be sure to visit the Young Adult Room on your next visit! The latest addition to this area is our new catalog computer, pictured at right. This new catalog is mounted on the end cap of one of the bookshelves. Early feedback from users is that this configuration is faster and easier than the old tabletop computer it replaced - try it yourself and let us know! As a bonus, the teens appreciate the "cool" factor of a wall-mounted computer.



Another recent improvement to our catalog is our new Kids Catalog, a more graphical search interface for younger patrons. Children are able to search based on icons, which progressively narrow the search until they are presented with a list of materials on the subject of their search. Parents tell us the kids enjoy the bright colors and cheerful pictures. This interface for the catalog is also available from home - visit our web site at www.hooksett.lib.nh.us, click on "Search the Catalog" and choose the "Kids Catalog" tab at the far right. Try it with your children today - we think they'll like it!
