Become An Amateur Astronomer @ Your Library

The Library's telescopes are now available to borrow. Use the telescopes to view craters on the moon, the rings around Saturn, and the moons of Jupiter! The Library’s participation in the Library Telescope Program was made possible by the New Hampshire Astronomical Society and the Hooksett Kiwanis Club. Ask a library staff member for more information and place a request to reserve a telescope today.

NEW eBooks @ Your Library

The library recently began purchasing additional eBooks for Hooksett library card holders. The new titles are available through the NH Downloadable Books website. Please view our list of NEW eBooks which we will update regularly.

Three important tips for eBook users:
Always login to your account first before searching for eBooks on the NH Downloadable Books website in order to see the complete collection available to you. Wait times for eBooks that the Hooksett Library owns will be much shorter than indicated by the number of patrons waiting for an eBook. Please place holds on eBooks that you want to read and we will continue to purchase the most popular titles.

Fall Prevention Workshops @ Your Library

Friday, January 13 from 12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. - Do you have concerns about falling? Learn ways to minimize the risk of falling and improve your balance. Presented by a representative from the Concord Regional VNA, this workshop series will benefit older adults. New Look for Auto Repair Reference Center @ Your Library

The EBSCO Auto Repair Reference Center online resource has been updated. Key features of the update include: increased repair coverage – more than 37,000 vehicles included, user-friendly navigation, ability to print/email/save high-quality PDF records, and On-Board Diagnostics (OBD II) codes with description and troubleshooting information. Family Astronomy Night Returns @ Your Library

Bob Veilleux, retired Astronomy Teacher and Planetarium Educator at the McAuliffe Shepard Discovery Center in Concord, will demonstrate how easy it is to borrow and use the library’s new telescopes. Fall Prevention Workshop @ Your Library

Monday, November 28 at 10:00 A.M. - Every Step Matters - Minimizing Slips, Trips, and Falls: Each year, one in every three adults age 65 and older falls. Falls can lead to moderate to severe injuries, such as hip fractures and head traumas, and can even increase the risk of early death. Fortunately, falls are largely preventable. Learn facts about falls and tips on reducing the risk. Presented by a representative from the Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association, this workshop will be of interest to caregivers, older adults and others with an interest in the topic. Dr. Sherlock Holmes @ Your Library

Tuesday, October 25 at 6:30 p.m. - Medicine and Mystery Fans of the popular television show "House" know that it is based on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories. They may not know how important the medical profession was to the first great detective. By examining Sherlock Holmes's detective in the context of Doyle's medical writings, Professor James Krasner's talk offers insights into the relationship between doctors and detectives. This program was made possible by the University of New Hampshire Speakers Bureau.
